Increased enforcement on Bloomington's Veterans Parkway

The Bloomington Police Department is increasing traffic enforcement efforts along Veterans Parkway throughout the month of August in response to continued community feedback regarding unsafe driving behavior.

Residents have reported ongoing concerns involving speeding, red-light violations, distracted driving related to cellphone use, and excessive vehicle noise that can be heard more than a mile from Veterans Parkway. In many cases, the excessive noise disrupts nearby neighborhoods and negatively impacts residents' quality of life, particularly during the evening and overnight hours.

Veterans Parkway remains the busiest arterial roadway in Bloomington, and these complaints have become one of the department's most frequently reported traffic safety concerns. Bloomington Police Officers will conduct high-visibility enforcement operations along the corridor with a focus on speeding, traffic signal violations, distracted driving, and applicable equipment and noise violations.

"We need the motoring public's cooperation with this initiative to improve traffic safety on the busiest arterial roadway in this city. Thousands of motorists rely on Veterans Parkway to travel to work, medical facilities, school, retail stores, places of worship and restaurants. The safety of those motorists and the numerous traffic complaints from our residents are very important to us," said Chief Jamal Simington. "In an effort to improve compliance and safety, Bloomington Police Officers will deploy resources to this roadway to aggressively enforce traffic laws, with a zero tolerance objective for the month of August."
