Pontiac approves social district

The Pontiac City Council has approved an ordinance for a downtown social district – something they’ve been talking about for the past couple of months.
“We have developed an area with boundaries in downtown where individuals will be able to purchase an adult beverage in a participating location during special events and be able to leave the venue,” explained Pontiac Mayor Kelly Eckhoff.
An adult beverage can be bought in a special cup and that cup could be taken to whatever is happening downtown such as a car show, festival or other city-sponsored events. This is just within the boundary of a certain area.
Also during this week’s regular Pontiac City Council meeting, the group approved a reciprocal agreement with the Illinois Department of Revenue to get a closer look at some of the sales tax revenue categories.
“It’s not something we’ll be able to divulge to the public,” explains Mayor Eckhoff. “We’ll be able to login and maybe see some more specifics about sales tax that is being collected at locations within the city limits.”
Aside from the bills to be paid, these were the main items on the fairly light meeting agenda.
