Numerous accidents were reported on area roadways Monday during a winter weather event which impacted Central Illinois.

Illinois State Police Troop 5 received calls for multiple single unit jack-knifed truck-tractor semi trailer crashes and slide off motorist assists along both Illinois Route 47 and Interstate 55.

State Police report there was a two-unit crash involving a semi and pickup truck on I-55 near Milepost 184, though no injuries or lane blockages were reported.

Winter weather advisories were issued in numerous counties after light snow overnight Sunday into Monday resulted in blowing and drifting out in the open areas leading to slick spots and low visibility. Blizzard warnings were even issued for parts of northwestern Illinois by the Quad Cities where more snow fell.

Monday’s unusual wintry weather for mid-March followed a night of strong thunderstorms and winds that prompted numerous watches and warnings Sunday.
