Arrest made after parking lot shooting

A shooting victim has died following a shooting in Bloomington on Fox Creek Road this week.


Bloomington Police officers were dispatched to Casey’s following a report of a person who had been shot in the parking lot. Officers located a man with a gunshot wound while bystanders were providing medical aid. The man, identified as Van Wilson, 57, of Bloomington, was taken to the hospital and later transferred to an Urbana hospital for further treatment.


Wilson was later pronounced dead at Carle Hospital in Urbana, according to the Champaign County Coroner’s Office. An autopsy is pending.


Bloomington Police report the suspect fled the scene in a vehicle following the shooting and officers with the McLean Police Department and McLean County Sheriff’s Office located the suspect vehicle. A traffic stop was conducted and the suspect was taken into custody without incident.


Deshaun Bussell, 25, of Bloomington was arrested for murder, intent to kill/injure and aggravated battery/discharge of a firearm.


Bussell was taken to the McLean County Detention Facility.
