Bloomington man sentenced to 104 years

On Thursday, September 3, 2026, Osman McLaurin Jr. was sentenced to 104 years in the Illinois Department of Corrections for the 2021 murder of Geoffrey Rowry.

On November 4, 2021, Bloomington police officers were dispatched to an apartment complex in the 800 block of East Washington Street for a person who had been shot. When officers arrived, they located Rowry in the courtyard, unresponsive with apparent gunshot wounds. Rowry wastransported to a local hospital, where he was later pronounced deceased. The McLean County Coroner's Office and the Bloomington Police Department Criminal Investigations Division responded to the scene.

A thorough investigation followed, ultimately leading to a warrant being issued for McLaurin's arrest in June of 2023. McLaurin was served with the arrest warrant while incarcerated on an unrelated McLean County weapons conviction for being a felon in possession of a weapon. On June 12, 2026, McLaurin was found guilty following a jury trial for the offenses of First-Degree Murder and Unlawful Possession of a Weapon by a Felon.

He was sentenced to a total of 104 years in the Illinois Department of Corrections. The sentences are to be served consecutively.

• First-Degree Murder - 90 years (must serve 100%)

• Unlawful Possession of a weapon by a felon - 14 years (must serve 50%)

"Our thoughts are with Mr. Rowry’s family and loved ones. No sentence can undo their loss, but we hope this outcome provides some measure of closure," said Chief Jamal Simington.
