Fatal wreck occurs north of El Paso

A two-vehicle accident just north of El Paso Thursday afternoon claimed the life of a man in Woodford County.

Authorities say a semi hauling an oversized load was traveling at a reduced speed southbound on I-39 when a passenger vehicle hit the back of the semi. The single male occupant of the passenger vehicle was found dead at the scene.

Woodford County Sheriff’s deputies are investigating the crash with assistance from the Commercial Motor Vehicle team from Illinois State Police.

The victim’s name is being withheld pending family notification.
