Bloomington Police have announced results of a Labor Day safety campaign.

Officers conducted an impaired driving enforcement effort over the holiday period resulting in two arrests for driving under the influence. Additionally, three seat belt citations were issued and occurred during the nighttime hours.

Other citations included 14 speeding citations, 1 distracted driving citation, 3 suspended/revoked licenses, 2 drug arrests and 24 citations for other violations.

Chief Jamal Simington says each impaired driver removed from the road is one less potential tragedy for the community. He thanked the officers who worked through the Labor Day weekend to serve the community and reinforce the importance of making safe decisions behind the wheel.

The effort was part of the statewide “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over,” “Drive High. Get a DUI,” and “Click It for Ticket” initiatives, funded by federal highway safety funds through the Illinois Department of Transportation.
