Traffic lanes which have been closed for construction will reopen where possible for the upcoming Memorial Day weekend to minimize travel disruptions.

The Illinois Department of Transportation says non-emergency closures will be suspended from 3 p.m. Friday (May 22) to 11:59 p.m. Monday (May 25).

These area lane closures will remain in place during the holiday weekend:

Old Route 66 at Illinois 116 over the Vermilion River in Pontiac where lane reductions continue.

Interstate 55 between the Mackinaw River and Lexington.

Interstate 55 near Towanda.

Interstate 74 from milepost 122 to just west of the I-55/I-74 interchange at exit 125.

Illinois Route 23 over I-80 at Ottawa.

Interstate 39 over I-80 at LaSalle.

According to IDOT, the public can expect delays and should allow extra time for trips through these areas. Drivers are encouraged to pay attention to changing conditions and signs in work zones, obey posted speed limits, refrain from using mobile devices and stay alert for workers and equipment.

At all times, please buckle up and drive sober, says a news released issued by IDOT this week.
