Leaders warn against tax hikes

Illinois Senate Minority Leader John Curran (R- Downers Grove) and Deputy Leader Sue Rezin (R-Morris) called on Governor Pritzker and the Democratic Majority not to raise taxes on Illinoisans this veto session.

“The Democrats plan to increase taxes on the economic engines of our state, causing more tax headaches for the people of Illinois," they said.

The Senators say some of the major savings for Illinois businesses that could be on the chopping block include:

o    A new deduction for manufacturers to build new manufacturing facilities here in Illinois;

o    Research and development cost recovery incentives allowing Illinois businesses to develop new and innovative products and technologies; and

o    Expansion of a small business deduction to help small businesses grow

Sen. Rezin also discussed the need to push back against additional expected cost increases on energy and transit.  

“At a time when working Illinoisans are already paying more for everything, from utilities to groceries to property taxes, the last thing they need is another round of bad policies that drive up costs and drive out jobs,” Rezin said,
