Loan document signing authorized

Chenoa City Council members voted to authorize Mayor David Shane to sign loan application documents for water main replacement.

Kevin Hannel from Farnsworth was at Tuesday’s Chenoa City Council meeting, explaining there are a few more pages to sign for the first couple of work phases.

“Once we get these signed, we’ll submit everything to the EPA,” Hannel explained.

The money is there, according to Hannel, now it is just a matter of getting paperwork done.

“Let me talk to these guys about phase three,” said Mayor Shane.

A dumpster program for rehabilitated properties was another talking point. Parks and Health Commissioner Manny Hernandez is doing research into this.

“We don’t have anything in place,” stated Hernandez.

“We haven’t put anything down on paper,” added Shane.

This will be discussed further at the next meeting.

Discussion took place on an overweight or oversize ordinance. Oversized loads are anticipated for developments near 3000 Road and Division Street. Something should be drafted by the next meeting.

During public comment, several residents spoke on topics ranging from pending litigation to ordinances.

Former council members and others in attendance encouraged the city to drop the case against a former business owner over TIF funds. The owner claimed the city crippled her “financially, mentally and emotionally.” The business closed in December.

Following an executive session, the council voted for City Attorney Steve Mann to look into a settlement to end the litigation.

This came after a lengthy, and sometimes heated, back-and-forth conversation between the public and city commissioners.

Also at Tuesday’s meeting, the Chenoa City Council approved previous meeting minutes and bills.
