A local musician is being remembered for leaving an “immense and immeasurable mark” on the Central Illinois music scene and far beyond.

Pete Ramsey, 54, of Bartonville and a native of Pontiac, passed away earlier this month – not long after his band performed at the July 3 street dance in Chenoa. He was bassist for the band Revel in Red. Ramsey died in a crash in Missouri July 12.

Educated in Pontiac schools, Ramsey graduated with a degree in I.T. at West Shore Community College in Michigan. He was employed by Trigo Group, where he served as I.T. manager.

His obituary says “it was through his music that Pete truly lived to inspire.” He dedicated the last five years to performing with Revel in Red.

Ramsey’s musical journey started in the late 1980s when he picked up a bass guitar. His first live performance was a three-song set at a school Christmas program, ending with his pick being thrown into the audience.

Ramsey is survived by his wife, children, mother and sisters.

A public celebration of life is planned for a later date with a location to be determined. Cremation rites have been accorded and services are being handled by Davison-Fulton/Bartonville Chapel.
