Concerns were raised in Pontiac about vehicles parking on both sides of South Street.

Street safety was a topic of discussion during Monday’s regular meeting of the Pontiac City Council.

Third Ward Alderman Gerald Causer shared constituent concerns with the council about South Street being narrow and dangerous for children as cars are often parked on both sides of the street.

“The kids are in the street all day long,” Causer said.

He feels if cars are parked on one side of the street, the kids would be more visual.

“On the flip side, more cars make people slow down,” stated Mayor Kelly Eckhoff. “Where do we stop? Then everyone is going to start asking us about that.”

“That’s also a problem on Livingston Street,” observed First Ward Alderman Frank Giovanini.

First Ward Alderman Michael Barr said he receives daily e-mails from people about vehicles parked around a long curve in his neighborhood. According to Barr, four cars were parked there over the weekend along with a large truck that makes it difficult to see.
