Neil A. (Johnson) Kade, 47, of Massachusetts, a beloved son, husband, father and scientist, passed away on September 17, 2025, in Massachusetts after he lost his long, courageous battle with cancer. He left behind a legacy of excellence, creativity, and love.
Neil was born August 2, 1978, the son of Patty Gordon.
He married Amy (Miara) Kade. She survives.
Also surviving are his parents, Patty and Tony Bagosy; children, Quinn Kade and Kai Kade; brother Chad Johnson; step-sister, Heidi Neise; and grandmother, Phyllis Gordon.
He was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, Lawerence W. Gordon and uncle, Gary D. Woods.
A graveside service will be held at 3:00 pm, Friday, October 31, 2025, at Wiley Cemetery, Colfax.
Neil graduated from Porta High School, continued his education at Illinois State University, where he received his master's in biochemistry. He further studied at Aaurhus University, Denmark.
Neil’s professional journey was nothing short of extraordinary. He dedicated his career in the field of protein biochemistry, leaving a significant impact at several prestigious institutions, including Novartis, The Broad Institute, Jounce Therapeutics, and Takeda. Ultimately, he rose to the role of lead scientist at Appellis Pharmaceuticals. His relentless pursuit of excellence inspired not only his own work but also those around him. He contributed to advancements in vaccines and cancer immunotherapies.
In addition to his professional work and culinary passions, Neil served his country with honor in the United States Army in the 501st Infantry Airborne. Earning recognition for both creativity and exemplary service. He owned and was head brewer at Gilded Skull Brewing and Blending. Neil’s love for his family was the core of his being. He was a devoted son, husband, and proud father.
As we reflect on Neil’s life, we remember his ability to see what others needed and to be present in ways that made a profound difference. His generosity of spirit and unwavering love are felt deeply, and it is difficult to imagine a world without his vibrant presence. Neil will be dearly missed by all who knew him, and his memory will forever be cherished in the hearts of his family and friends.
