Neva Maxine McBride, 87, went home to be with our heavenly Father at 7:34 am Thursday, March 5, 2026, at Riverside Medical Center, Kankakee.

Mrs. McBride was a daughter of Lester and Virginia Hamilton VanHoorebeke. She married Edward E. McBride on September 16, 1966, in Buckley, IL. He preceded her in death on December 12, 1996.

Visitation will be noon to 2:00 pm Tuesday, March 10, 2026, followed by her funeral at 2:00pm at Duffy-Pils Memorial Home, Fairbury with Pastor Keith Maynard officiating. Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery, Fairbury. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Easter Seals for Autism.

Mrs. McBride worked all her life at various odd jobs from the Coil Factory to catching chickens.

She raised six children in her lifetime through a lot of tears and happiness. We all appreciate her strength and humor to help guide us though any situation. Her best saying was “One day at a time”.

She is survived by two daughters, Peggy Bates, Secor, and Patricia Moore, PA, four sons, David (Leanna) Bates, TN, Bobby (Jennifer) McBride, Chenoa, Darrell (Jen) McBride, Momence, IL and Randall (Michelle) McBride, IN, one sister, Joyce (Joe) Swick, AZ, one brother, Lester VanHoorebeke, FL, thirty grandchildren and forty great grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Kenneth VanHoorebeke.

Mrs. McBride was most commonly known as Mighty Midget, and she always was asking for a million dollars to anyone who spoke to her and asked if she needed anything.
