An accident Thursday morning at the intersection of West Reynolds Street and Wal-Mart Drive in Pontiac claimed the life of a Pontiac woman.

The Livingston County Coroner’s Office reports Nancy C. Benedict, 70, was pronounced dead while the other driver involved, Michael Stalter, 63, of Chenoa was treated and released from the hospital.

Authorities say Stalter was driving a Dodge pickup truck eastbound on Reynolds approaching Wal-Mart Drive when his vehicle struck the vehicle driven by Benedict on the driver’s side. Both vehicles sustained heavy damage, coming to rest in the intersection.

Stalter received a citation for disobeying a stop light, according to a news release issued by the coroner.

As of Friday, an autopsy was pending and the accident remains under investigation by Pontiac Police, the Livingston County Coroner and Illinois State Police accident reconstruction unit.
