Route 24 Radio has expanded to the radio airwaves of Central Illinois.

You can now hear the station on 93.7 FM around the clock as Route 24 Radio’s parent company Casson Media has acquired the frequency, licensed to Pontiac.

“We are taking local radio to a whole new level,” explains owner Kent Casson. “I grew up listening to and working for local stations so this is a dream come true.”

Being on 93.7 FM is nothing new for Casson, as that is where he got his start in radio almost 30 years ago, working his way up to news director in the early 2000s while also working for various aspects of the programming department.

Listeners can expect to hear the latest news, sports, weather and ag programs throughout the day along with coverage of live events. Whether it is a local board meeting or area fair, Route 24 Radio will be there covering it.

“Come fall, we will spotlight high school sports broadcasts on the station as a part of our growing Casson Media High School Sports Network,” adds Casson.

The sports network currently covers area schools such as Prairie Central, Pontiac, Lexington, El Paso-Gridley and Eureka. With the addition of the radio frequency, expect further coverage of other towns in the listening area starting with the next school year.

You can tune-in to 93.7 right now and hear news updates each morning, ag markets and headlines throughout the day and the latest weather forecast. The broadcast day begins at 5 a.m. with “A Central Illinois Morning,” the hourlong ag show for local farmers and rural residents. Then, hear the Route 24 Radio Forum weekdays at 9 a.m. with different guests interviewed in the studio and stick around for the noontime information update.

Music and weather fill the time between live segments with one of the largest music libraries around.

“Our sound will really stand out and we are glad to provide listeners with a source of local information for Central Illinois,” said Casson.

The call letters of WPOK for the new 93.7 FM are a throwback to the old radio days in Livingston County. WPOK was the call sign for Pontiac’s original radio station, formerly located on the AM radio dial.

“We are really going full circle with a nod to Pontiac’s radio past while looking to the future of local radio,” notes Casson.

More local programming and on-air shows on Route 24 Radio 93.7 will be announced in April. While the station’s signal is centered around Pontiac, it reaches neighboring towns such as Fairbury, Chenoa, Dwight, Flanagan, El Paso, Streator, Bloomington-Normal, Colfax, Lexington and everywhere in between. The station’s website www.route24radio.com will feature the latest on-demand audio and news headlines from around Central Illinois. An online stream is also available on the site.

Anyone wishing to provide news tips or releases, submissions for the community calendar of events or other local information is encouraged to send an e-mail to cassonmedia@yahoo.com or message the Route 24 Radio page on Facebook.

The station is also seeking new advertisers for our 24/7 programming. Those interested in sponsorship opportunities can send an e-mail to the above address or call/text 217-530-3107.
