A 1951 modified Mercury was getting some stares Saturday night during the Hang Loose car show in downtown Pontiac.

The car, owned by Dennis “Twinkie” Sullivan, has numerous features including a 1953 DeSoto grill on the front bumper, parts from a Pontiac station wagon, cameras off of a 1965 T-bird and a three-piece back window from a 1949 Mercury which is extremely rare.

“They’re very, very hard to find,” Sullivan said.

The car also has dual antennas on the rear and tail lights from a 1956 Packard.

“I’ve got stainless steel on the car,” adds Sullivan.

Sullivan also owns a 1954 Chevy convertible and a 1929 two-door sedan.

Sullivan’s modified Mercury was one of many cars parked along the courthouse square during Saturday’s Hang Loose day which was revived this year by the Boys and Girls Club of Livingston County.

The day also included a three-on-three basketball tournament and activities at Humiston Riverside Park surrounding the popular duck race. Though the actual race could not take place due to high water levels in the Vermilion River, a duck drop happened instead.

Organizers seemed pleased with the Hang Loose event and hope to keep growing it.
