One dead after I-55 wreck near Pontiac

State Police and the Livingston County Coroner’s office are investigating a two-vehicle accident which occurred on I-55 near Pontiac at mile marker 194 early Friday morning.

One passenger was pronounced dead at the scene with an autopsy pending. Another passenger was taken to St. James Medical Center in Pontiac and later transferred to St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria with non-life threatening injuries. The two drivers involved were air lifted from the scene and taken to Peoria, although their conditions are not known at this time.

A State Police accident reconstructionist was called to the scene and the southbound lanes of I-55 were shut down following the crash which occurred before 5 a.m.

According to police, no other information is being released at this time, including the names of those involved.
