Very last Pontiac spotted in...Pontiac
A very special car was parked in downtown Pontiac Sunday during the 15th annual GTOAA Regional All Pontiac Cruise and Show.
The very last Pontiac to roll off the assembly line, a 2010 G6 sedan, was a highlight of the weekend car show.
“It was in Scott City, Kansas – an elderly lady had it,” recalled Tim Dye of the Pontiac Oakland Automobile Museum. “It was actually a rental car.”
Dye notes that all of the last Pontiacs were G6’s and all of them were rentals. They were made a fulfill a contract with a rental company.
“The question I get the most is why didn’t they keep it,” explains Dye. “Well, they were in bankruptcy at that time and they had just sold some of their collection.”
What makes the car even more interesting is the fact that it has signatures from line workers all over it, mainly in places you can’t see.
The Heart of Illinois GTO Club and Gateway GTO Club hosted the Pontiac Cruise and Show. This year, they marked the 100th anniversary of Route 66 and of the Pontiac Motor Division.
