Members of the El Paso-Gridley FFA chapter thanked local farmers during an ag breakfast Thursday at EPG High School.
Those attending enjoyed a free cup of coffee and donuts.
Ag teacher Eric Reudter says they like to do this every year as a way to show appreciation to farmers.
“We are just happy for all of the support they give us,” said Reudter.
The year has been going well for FFA members such as Gage Cobbley, who serves as the EPG chapter reporter and sentinel.
“I’ve been able to advance to district in extemporaneous public speaking which is my favorite event to do for FFA,” Cobbley explained.
FFA Secretary Abram Steiner is thankful to have more contests on the horizon – some contests they don’t normally do.
EPG’s ag program added a second ag teacher, Hannah Ruestman, about five years ago which helped to expand the program there. The school has been able to offer more activities and contests.
“This year, we’ve gone to quite a few,” notes Reudter. “We kind of made it a priority to try as many contests as we could.”
The Food Science and Horticulture contest was held this past Tuesday and next week is the Livestock Judging contest before the FFA heads to Ag Legislative Day at Springfield.
“It has been a great year – we’ve almost doubled our membership from the previous year,” added Reudter.
El Paso, Gridley and surrounding areas are very supportive of the local school ag program. Farmers and ag businesses are helpful by providing donations.
