Obituary: Martin

Ruth L. Martin, 99, of Pontiac formerly of Chenoa, died at 11 am, Friday, October 10, 2025 at Goldwater Care of Pontiac.

Mrs. Martin was born on October 31, 1925, in Chenoa a daughter to Russell and Vernice (Harkrider) Dunham. She married Paul Martin on August 17, 1945 in Bloomington, IL. Her husband Paul, preceded her in death on July 31, 2006.  

Her Parents, one son, Dennis Martin in 2024; one brother, John "Sonny" Dunham; three Sisters, Lillian Yergler, Gayle Bayleat & Marilyn Dempsey also preceded her in death.

Survivors include two sons, Douglas (Laurie) Martin, Bonney Lake, Washington and David (Cindy) Martin, Tampa Bay, Florida; one brother, S. Dell Dunham, Maple Park, IL; six grandchildren and six great grandchildren.

Mrs. Martin was a graduate of Chenoa High School and was a member of the Chenoa United Methodist Church, Chenoa.

The Martin’s were both born and raised in Chenoa. They lived in Chenoa until Paul’s retirement in 1979. They moved to Sun City, AZ. for 29 years and moved back to the area in Burt Village of Meadows Mennonite Retirement Center, Chenoa.

There will be a private family Inurnment service at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery, Elwood, IL; at a later date.  Duffy-Pils Memorial Home, Chenoa will be assisting the family with arrangements.  Memorial contributions may be directed to Operation Homefront; operationhomefront.org.
