Illinois Senate Deputy Republican Leader Sue Rezin (R-Morris) issued the following statement after the Illinois Senate passed House Bill 3438, which creates a new $1.50 statewide delivery tax to help fund a bailout for Chicago’s transit system:

“This is nothing more than a statewide tax hike disguised as a transit fix. Starting next year, Illinoisans will be forced to pay $1.50 on nearly every package delivered to their homes, including a box of diapers, your child’s school clothes, or dinner after a long day at work.

“This delivery tax punishes working families for using a service that has become essential in today’s world, especially for seniors, busy parents, and rural residents with fewer local options.

“What’s worse, none of this money goes toward improving roads or infrastructure throughout the entire state, instead, it goes to bail out Chicago’s broken transit system. That is completely unacceptable. I proudly opposed this poorly conceived policy because I will not support balancing Chicago’s books on the backs of families in my district.”
